AIID
The Amsterdam Institute for International Development is a joint initiative of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the Free University of Amsterdam (VU). The Institute was founded in 2000. At present, the ongoing projects mainly are related to Africa.
CASA
The Centre for Asian Studies Amsterdam is a joint centre of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the Free University (VU), and was founded in 1987. It combines the Asia studies and coordinates undergraduate teaching at these two institutions. It issues various publication series.
CNWS
The Centre for Non-Western Studies (Centrum voor Niet-Westerse Studies), 1988-1994; Research School CNWS: School of Asian, African, and Amerindian studies, Leiden University, 1994-2008.
IDPAD
The Indo-Dutch Programme on Alternatives in Development (IDPAD) was a programme of research, seminars and exchange of scholars between the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi and the Netherlands Foundation for the Advancement of Tropical Research (WOTRO), The Hague. The programme was carried out in the periode 1980-2005.
IHS
The Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS) is an international centre of the School of Economics and the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Erasmus University Rotterdam. The institute was founded in 1958.
IIAS
The International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) is a research and exchange platform based in Leiden, the Netherlands. It encourages the multidisciplinary and comparative study of Asia, and actively promotes national and international co-operation. The focus is on urbanisation, heritage and globalisation. The Institute was jointly established in 1993 by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), Leiden University, the Universiteit van Amsterdam (UVA) and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU). The branch office in Amsterdam was closed down per 31 December 2011.
IISH
The International Institute of Social History (Internationaal Instituut voor Sociale Geschiedenis, IISG) examines how work and labour relations which deeply influence our lives, develop globally over time. Established in 1935, the IISH is one of the world’s leading research institutes on social history. Since 1979 the IISH has been an institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).
ISS
The International Institute of Social Studies (ISS, The Hague) is an international graduate school of policy-oriented critical social science. It brings together students and teachers from the Global South and the North in a European environment. It is founded in 1952 as part of the Erasmus University Rotterdam.
