Publications: c. 1968-2009
In the period 1951-1967 (the Prague period), Zvelebil published about 350 works which were mostly written in Czech. These consist of papers, newspaper articles, lectures, translations from Tamil and Malayalam literature into the Czech language, and a few monographs. A selection of seventeen English papers of this period was reprinted in Tamulica et Dravidica: a selection of papers on Tamil and Dravidian linguistics (Prague 1998). None of these early publications is included; they are listed in the appendix to his valedictory lecture Long-range linguistic comparisons: the case of Dravidian (Utrecht 1991, pp. 9-33) and in Tamulica et Dravidica (Prague 1998, pp. 257-277). A second collection of reprints is found in Nilgiri areal studies (Prague 2001). This volume includes three articles and one review from the Prague period (translated from the Czech into English), twenty-five articles and reviews written after 1967 (which are listed), and three articles, one review and an introduction of twenty pages which were written by Zvelebil especially for this bundle.
